DINS faculty member, Prof. Konstantinos (Kostas) Pelechrinis, has co-authored the second edition of Mathletics, a book on sports analytics that will be released on January 11th, 2022 from the Princeton University Press. Mathletics reveals the mathematical methods top coaches and managers use to evaluate players and improve team performance. The book gives math enthusiasts the practical skills they need to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of their favorite sports—and maybe even gain the outside edge to winning bets.
Dr. Pelechrinis is offering an introductory course on sports analytics (INFSCI 0530 - Decision Making in Sports), with the objective of introducing data science concepts through the lens of sports. This course is also part of Pitt's College in High School program.
