DINS faculty member Dr. Yu-ru Lin is on the steering committee of the Collaboratory Against Hate, a joint Pitt-Carnegie Mellon University project, now attracting hundreds to the team.
Yu-ru Lin uses a statistical and computational approach to study publicly available texts from such online sources as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to understand political discourse – how online groups discuss contentious issues, such as gun control and abortion, and how hate speech and prejudice enter and evolve.
